Drip irrigation project in Emni-Haili sub-zone goes operational

A drip irrigation project in Emni-Haili sub-zone, Southern region, worth about 6 million Nakfa has been inaugurated.  The regional Administrator, Mr. Mustafa Nurhusein, inaugurated the project this week.
Mendefera, 7 October 2010 – A drip irrigation project in Emni-Haili sub-zone, Southern region, worth about 6 million Nakfa has been inaugurated.  The regional Administrator, Mr. Mustafa Nurhusein, inaugurated the project this week.

The branch head of the Agriculture Ministry in the region, Mr. Bahta Tedros, pointed out during the inauguration ceremony that the necessary essential facilities have been put in place for the drip irrigation task. Over 20 hectares below the Dirko Dam is now being put under cultivation thanks to the new project.

The Administrator of the sub-zone, Mr. Osman Arafa, said on his part that the land put under cultivation has been distributed to 105 wives of martyrs and needy female nationals who have been grouped into an association to facility their farming activities.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mustafa called on the beneficiaries to exert the necessary endeavors, and thereby upgrade their standard of living. He also disclosed that there are plans to breed fish in the Dirko Dam so as to meet the supply of fish to the local inhabitants.
