President Isaias Afwerki conducted a tour of inspection in different parts of the Southern region from October 7 to 8, during which he observed the condition of farmlands and the accomplishments registered in soil and water conservation activities.
Adi-Keih, 8 October 2010 – President Isaias Afwerki conducted a tour of inspection in different parts of the Southern region from October 7 to 8, during which he observed the condition of farmlands and the accomplishments registered in soil and water conservation activities.
The President visited the sub-zones of Dubarwa, Mendefera, Emni-Haili, Adi-Quala, Mai-Aini, Tsorona and Adi-Keih. In the course of the visit, he inspected the condition of crop plantations and water resource conservation undertakings.
Also in the course of the inspection tour, he observed the previously constructed micro-dams of Qaqbda-Adebzagge and Dirko, as well as the Sesewe and Unaferon micro-dams that were constructed 3 years ago in the sub-zones of Mai-Aini and Adi-Keih. Taking note of the amount of water they have impounded and their contribution in enriching underground water resource, President Isaias exchanged views with engineers and heads of the Agriculture Ministry on the future of such micro-dams.
The President subsequently held a meeting with representatives of the inhabitants of the region at the Assembly Hall of the College of Arts and Social Science in Adi-Keih.
In the meeting, he stated that the nation presently stands on the now most-reliable and solid ground thanks to the dedication of the people and good rainy season. In this connection, he underlined the need for redoubling endeavors to greatly improve the people’s standard of living in 2011.
“We have already witnessed the outcome of our unremitting endeavors; still, there is the need for exerting much more efforts,” the President underscored. In this respect, he emphasized the need for the entire Eritrean people to step up endeavors so as to achieve food security and reserve.
