Adi-Keih, 8 October 2010 – President Isaias Afwerki conducted a visit to the College of Arts and Social Science in Adi-Keih sub-zone that was inaugurated on 11 June 2010 and is already providing educational opportunity.
The President made a tour of all classrooms of the College, during which the Dean, Dr. Ogbagebriel Beraki, indicated that the construction of the college fully attests to the substantial investment being made by the Government in human resource development. He further stated that the necessary facilities have been put in place in the college and that it has already began providing service.
Likewise, the Administrator of the Southern region, Mr. Mustafa Nurhusein, pointed out that the opening of the college would provide impetus to the on-going endeavors of building human capacity, and urged students to demonstrate academic excellence and live up to the nation’s expectations.
The Administrator of Adi-Keih sub-zone, Mr. Mohammed Hamid, equally commended the initiative taken by the Government in the construction of the college and asserted that the local inhabitants would enhance contribution in its development.
The College of Arts and Social Science in Adi-Keih was constructed at an expenditure of 255 million Nakfa and is equipped with Ground +2 dormitory facility that could accommodate about 1,800 students, 30 classrooms of different size and 60 residence rooms for teachers, as well as laboratories and libraries.
Meanwhile, President Isaias visited the St. George Church in Adi-Keih which was destroyed by aerial bombardment in 1998 during the TPLF regime’s war of aggression, and later on rebuilt in modern style. The President was accorded warm welcome by religious leaders headed by Abune Kierlos, Bishop of Adi-Keih sub-zone, as well as the general public.
