Asmara, 10 October 2010- Customers brining in goods from abroad say that they are facing difficulties in receiving their goods due to the inefficient services provided by the Customs office.

Speaking to ERINA, the customers said that they are made to wait for long periods of time to receive goods brought in by air or through cargo ships for reasons that are not clear.

Addressing this issue, the head of the Customs Department, Mr. Abraham Gebretinsae pointed out that any citizen has the right to legally import any item for private consumption and that the said delays and complications arise due to the failure of customers to abide by the regulations issued by the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

The customers on their part emphasized that authorities at the Customs office should provide efficient services as per their own regulations and reminded that the issue needs particular focus.
