Asmara, 11 October 2010 – The head of infrastructure development in the Central region, Eng. Eretros Abraham, called on owners and residents of various building complexes in different corners of Asmara city in general and those in downtown in particular to refrain from painting tarnishing colors to such buildings, and abide by the permitted ones.
He indicated that any owner willing to paint a certain building is duty-bound to get permit from the infrastructure department as regards the color that is deemed fit to the complex. He further explained that the necessary information and various choices of painting have been made available.
Noting that some irresponsible individuals are painting their houses outside of the permitted painting colors, Eng. Eretros pointed out that in such circumstances, the department is duty-bound to compel the individuals to repaint the house concerned with the accepted and proper color within 5 days. Failing to do so would also give rise to applying the necessary punitive measures, he added.
In remarks he made with ERINA regarding the matter, Mr. Solomon Tesfagergis, owner of Rahwa Paintings, stated that resorting to dazzling colors like green, blue, yellow, red and black should be avoided in painting building complexes. He further highlighted the need for consulting experts while painting houses, in addition to picking the right color that conforms to the existing environmental setting.
Members of the public on their part emphasized that special attention and proper supervision should be given to Art Deco and other classic buildings while going under renovation so as to retain their breathtaking structure and shape. They further urged the Central regional Administration to put an end to the growing illegal construction of residential houses.
