The Administrator of Assab town, Mr. Berhane Eyasu, said that coordinated endeavors are being exerted on the part of the town administration and the Water Resource Department towards tackling possible halt in potable water supply due to the malfunction of water pumping motors and pipelines.
Assab, 16 October 2010 – The Administrator of Assab town, Mr. Berhane Eyasu, said that coordinated endeavors are being exerted on the part of the town administration and the Water Resource Department towards tackling possible halt in potable water supply due to the malfunction of water pumping motors and pipelines.
He explained that the 24-hour potable water supply service equipped with 18 wells and 57 km-long water pipelines could encounter termination of service as the motors and water pipelines are outdated and need to be replaced with modern ones.
To this end, Mr. Berhane indicated that 21 Km-long water pipelines have been replaced with new plastic ones, and that the task is in progress to accomplish the remaining part. The necessary study has also been undertaken on ways of replacing the water pumping motors and the main water pipelines which has already proceeded to implementation.
The head of technical department in the Water Resource Department in the town, Mr. Woldu Gebremedhin, said on his part that concerted action is being taken to fully ensure the provision of reliable potable water supply to Assab town residents.
