Newly constructed water reservoirs in Mengula relieving cattle from traveling long distance

Pastoralists in Mengula administrative area, Golij sub-zone, said that livestock in the sub-zone are getting easy access to bountiful grass and water thanks to the water reservoirs constructed in their respective areas. Golij, 18 October 2010 – Pastoralists in Mengula administrative area, Golij sub-zone, said that livestock in the sub-zone are getting easy access to bountiful grass and water thanks to the water reservoirs constructed in their respective areas.

They explained that previously they used to travel long distance to fetch water and grass and consequently the livestock were exposed to various types of diseases and hardship. At present, however, they are relieved of such adversity with the growing number of newly constructed water reservoirs that have already impounded sufficing amount of water, the inhabitants added.

They went on to say that the newly constructed 4 water reservoirs in different rangelands sites are making due contribution in alleviating the hardship the pastoralists used to encounter in searching for posture and water.

Mengula is located about 30 Km. east of Golij.
