Tsorona, 18 October 2010 – Various activities are being carried out in Tsorona and Adi-Quala sub-zone to raise public awareness and promote sanitation campaigns, and thereby prevent communicable diseases.
A lecture in which village health representatives, area administrators and team leaders was offered in Tsorona focusing on preventing diseases resulting from ill-hygiene.
The head of the Health Ministry’s branch in the Southern region, Mr. Asefaw Gebremichael, explained that public awareness regarding communicable diseases is gaining momentum thanks to the intensive campaign and lecture being undertaken. In this connection, he stated that increased endeavors would be exerted to keep intact the achievements registered in controlling malaria infection and further drop it to the lowest level possible.
The Administrator of Emba-Baria, Mr. Shimangus Kidane, noted that about 78 village health representatives have been trained and are providing active service in all administrative areas.
Reports indicated that anti-mosquito pesticides have been sprayed and that over 25,000 mosquito nets have been treated with medication, besides covering up mosquito breeding spots.
