New schools are under construction in Laelai-Gash sub-zone with a view to promoting active student participation in education and facilitating the teaching-learning process. Laelai-Gash, 20 October 2010 – New schools are under construction in Laelai-Gash sub-zone with a view to promoting active student participation in education and facilitating the teaching-learning process.
The head of social services in the sub-zone, Mr. Tekeste Tesfamariam, explained that new schools have been constructed in Blienayo and Birara administrative areas that used to encounter shortage of classrooms. Another school is also in the process of construction in Gerenfit, he added.
Noting that student participation in education did not proceed as desired in both administrative areas due to lack of enough classrooms, Mr. Tekeste indicated that such student enrollment is now expected to be enhanced thanks to the newly built schools. He further stated that additional classrooms are also being constructed in Awgaro.
Reports indicated that previously students were attending classes in makeshift tents, which in turn gave rise to low student performance.
There exist about 34 schools in Laelai-Gash sub-zone providing educational opportunity ranging from kindergarten to secondary level.
