Geleb, 22 October 2010 – In line with its endeavors to stabilize the market through expanding vegetable farming, the Fruits and Vegetables Farming Association in Geleb sub-zone is redoubling efforts to generate income through giving special emphasis to fruits production, stated Mr. Shekedin Ar’bai, Chairman of the association. He explained that the sub-zone is suitable for a number of cash crops such as coffee, orange, avocado and others.

Members of the association engaged in avocado plantation said that the plantation is very rewarding as there exists limited number of farmers involved in the activities. Enough seeds of avocado is available for those farmers who wish to engage in this type of plantation, they added. Noting that their production is also highly demanded in markets outside the sub-zone, the  members called on the Agriculture Ministry to collaboration in the provision of fertilizers and pesticides.

The Administrator of the sub-zone, Mr. Girmatsion Abraha, indicated that the Association with 350 members has so far put over 300 hectares under cultivation and that due attention would be given to the task of utilizing available fertile land for the same purpose.
