Tessenei, 22 October 2010 – A number of development programs are under implementation in Tessenei sub-zone with a view to providing impetus to the pace of urbanization, according to Mr. Tekleberhan Gebrewold, Administrator of the sub-zone.
He explained that the construction of the Aligidir micro-dam, implementation of potable water supply projects in Tessenei town, Adi-Omar and Enjihai, in addition to the construction of building complexes for ERI-TEL and Gemel Transport Company are among the major projects accomplished or in the process of implementation. Preparations have also been finalized to construct foam-made residential housing complexes at an expenditure of over 20 million Nakfa, the sub-zonal Administrator added.
Mr. Tekleberhan further pointed out that the Tessenei potable water supply project stretching from Gash River that comprises 64 water distribution stations and 80 km-long water pipelines has been put in place, and that endeavors are being made to install running water in 2, 000 households.
Reports indicated that the existing 24-hour electricity and telephone service, coupled with active trading and agricultural activities in Tessenei town is attracting a number of investors. The town which is endowed with major dams and vegetable projects is becoming a source of employment opportunity as amply demonstrated with the doubling of the number of residents.
