Role of Government bodies and organizations Crucial To Promote Women’s Participation: NUEW Congress

The NUEW (National Union of Eritrean Women)  conducted its 1st congress on October 22 in which the role of government bodies and other organizations was described as decisive to enhance the contribution of women in all sectors of the economy. Asmara, 24 October 2010 – The NUEW (National Union of Eritrean Women)  conducted its 1st congress on October 22 in which the role of government bodies and other organizations was described as decisive to enhance the contribution of women in all sectors of the economy.

It its statement at the occasion, the coordinating committee of the congress stated that though the government’s endeavors to ensure women’s right in general and their role in education as well as in the work place is bearing fruitful outcome, strenuous efforts are needed to bring about dynamic change.

The Director General of Social Services in the Central region, Mr. Berhane Negash, noted that the Government of Eritrea is working to secure women’s rights and equality by outlining policies, laws as well as proclamations. He went on to say that the NUEW has played paramount role in enhancing the contribution of women using the conducive ground provided.

Mr. Berhane reminded the union to further strengthen its role so as to preserve the already registered accomplishments in collaboration with its partners, and strive for the remaining tasks. He also expressed the Administration of the Central region’s readiness to extend support to this end.

The participants of the congress on their part adopted a number of resolutions and recommendation, as well as elected executive committee for two years.
