Forest Areas in Mensura Sub Zone In Need Of Attention

The PFDJ secretary in Gash-Barka region, Mr. Rezene Adonay called upon the concerned bodies to take the necessary measures to maintain the natural forest trees in various parts of Mensura sub-zone. Mensura, 31 October 2010 – The PFDJ secretary in Gash-Barka region, Mr. Rezene Adonay called upon the concerned bodies to take the necessary measures to maintain the natural forest trees in various parts of Mensura sub-zone.

Following a tour he conducted with the Administrators of sub-zones of the region, he highlighted the need for proper identification of the forest areas and preservation measures. Mr. Rezene went on to say that agriculture experts should conduct research and work in collaboration with the local inhabitants of the area.

The Administrator of the Logo-Anseba sub-zone, Mr. Osman Mohammed, on his part reminded the Ministry of Agriculture to give due attention to the forest areas which are endowed with attractive landscape and trees.

Moreover, Mr. Tesfalidet Gebremariam, the administrator of Mesura sub-zone, explained that the places covered with trees are in villages of Migrah, Tinshi’ay, Chi’etat and Gerger, and the vast forestry is now receding to river edges currently. He added that though the local inhabitants are striving to conserve them, charcoal traders and nomads are inflicting great damage to the area.
