Southern Region: Enhanced People’s Awareness Vital To Control Communicable Diseases

In an assessment meeting they conducted, the committee for controlling communicable diseases in the Southern region stressed the need for enhanced people’s awareness and their active participation in environmental sanitation.
Mendefera, 31 October 2010 – In an assessment meeting they conducted, the committee for controlling communicable diseases in the Southern region stressed the need for enhanced people’s awareness and their active participation in environmental sanitation.

The head of communicable diseases controlling unit in Southern region, Mr. Asefaw Gebremichael, stated that concerted efforts are being carried out to put under control communicable diseases, along with regular trainings and environmental sanitation campaigns.

The participants on their part reminded the committee to develop close relations with the people so as to conduct effective work at village level, and people should be cautious regarding communicable disease.

Also, the Director General of Social Services in the region, Mr. Tesfatsion Girmai, emphasized the importance of unremitting endeavors to reduce communicable diseases to the lowest level, and thus branch office of ministries, associations and people should redouble their efforts to this end.
