Administrator outlines development achievements in Southern region

The Administrator of Southern region, Mr. Mustafa Nurhusein, said that the substantial investment being made in various sectors of the region has a vital role to play in ensuring food security and social justice.

Mendefera, 2 November 2010 – The Administrator of Southern region, Mr. Mustafa Nurhusein, said that the substantial investment being made in various sectors of the region has a vital role to play in ensuring food security and social justice.

He outlined the major contribution of the drip irrigation device, expansion and construction of major dams, putting in place of big water diversion schemes, fruits and vegetables farming below dam and reserve rangelands in boosting agricultural output.

As regards the education sector, Mr. Mustafa pointed out that the number of schools in the region which were only 76 in 1991 has presently risen to over 493. Concerted action is also being taken to combat illiteracy, he added.

Noting that almost all communicable diseases in the region have been put under control as a result of the coordinated endeavors exerted by health institutions, the Administrator noted that access to reliable potable water supply is gaining momentum. He further called on the public to back up the national development drive.
