Dubarwa Sub-Zone: Fruits And Vegetables Farming Association To Expand Activities

The Fruits and Vegetables Farming Association in Dubarwa sub-zone is striving to meet market demand through strengthening organizational capacity and effective utilization of available water resource, according to Mr. Samuel Amanuel, Chairman of the Association.
Dubarwa, 3 November 2010 – The Fruits and Vegetables Farming Association in Dubarwa sub-zone is striving to meet market demand through strengthening organizational capacity and effective utilization of available water resource, according to Mr. Samuel Amanuel, Chairman of the Association.

He explained that members of the Association are redoubling efforts to boost production as the newly constructed micro-dams of Warsay, Bidho and Azaih, as well as wells in the sub-zone are impounded with sufficient volume of water.

In accordance with the steps taken to stabilize the price of fruits and vegetables in the sub-zone, a marketing center has been opened in Dubarwa town so as to directly interact producers and consumers, Mr. Samuel noted. He further indicated that over 1 million Nakfa has been extended in assistance to 132 farmers engaged in vegetable farming for the purpose of purchasing seeds, pesticides, motor repairing and the digging of wells.

The head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, Mr. Bereket Tesfaslasie, pointed out that the contribution of vegetable farmers in stabilizing the market is not to be viewed lightly. Study has also been finalized and is proceeding for implementation to cultivate over 2,000 hectares through drip-irrigation in the land plots below the dams of Warsay, Bidho, Azaihe, Amadir and Gorba’ati.

The Fruits and Vegetables Farming Association in Dubarwa sub-zone was established in 2001.
