Hamelmalo, 3 November 2010 – The agricultural experience acquired this year would serve as a steppingstone for obtaining bumper harvest for the coming years, according to Mr. Kafel Teklesenbet, expert in seed fertilization in Hamelmalo sub-zone.

He stated that the extensive preparations made in soil and water conservation, as well as land leveling activities, coupled with good rainy season have enabled the farming community in the sub-zone to expect bumper harvest.  Mr. Kafel further commended the close follow up  of farmers to their cultivation until crop harvest.

The local inhabitants said on their part that the promising harvest is the outcome of the good rainy season and the coordinated agricultural preparations carried out which would lay solid ground for the coming years.

They further expressed satisfaction with the promising sorghum and millet plantation on over 45 hectares in Situr put under cultivation through integrated farming. The inhabitants also noted the need for constructing more micro-dams and water reservoirs so as to avoid sole dependence on rain-fed agricultural practices.
