Malaria Prevention Endeavors Effective In Anseba Region

Endeavors to prevent malaria infection in Anseba region are bearing encouraging outcome, according to Mr. Kiros Sereke, head of malaria control desk in the Health Ministry’s branch in the region.
Keren, 6 November 2010 – Endeavors to prevent malaria infection in Anseba region are bearing encouraging outcome, according to Mr. Kiros Sereke, head of malaria control desk in the Health Ministry’s branch in the region.

In a meeting held in Keren town with more than 300 women from the sub-zones of Sel’a, Asmat, Halhal, Habero, Hamelmalo, Hagaz, Elabered, Keren and Adi-Tekelezan, he stated that wide-ranging activities are being carried out to raise public awareness regarding the cause and prevention of malaria epidemic. As a result, the spread of the disease has shown dramatic decline in all parts of the region, Mr. Kiros elaborated.

Reports indicated that about 17,000 mosquito nets have been distributed free of charge to pregnant mothers and needy mothers in different parts of the region, while 120,000 mosquito nets were re-medicated.

Moreover, training was given to 3,000 mothers on the cause and consequence of malaria, as well as ways of preventing the infection, which in turn is making due contribution in raising the  awareness of households in their respective locality.
