Society Called Upon To Extend All-Round Support To Vision-Impaired Nationals

At an assessment meeting held in Adi-Keih town, the Chairman of the Eritrean National Association for the Blind, Mr. Dawit Fisehaye, underscored the need for the society at large to step up contribution towards enabling visually-impaired persons ensure socio-economic participation.
Adi-Kieh, 6 November 2010 – At an assessment meeting held in Adi-Keih town, the Chairman of the Eritrean National Association for the Blind, Mr. Dawit Fisehaye, underscored the need for the society at large to step up contribution towards enabling visually-impaired persons ensure socio-economic participation.

He indicated that study has been undertaken at the national level to determine the quantity and situation of vision-impaired nationals, and that representatives have been elected in the administrative regions so as to expand organizational capacity. A number of visually-impaired persons have already become beneficiaries of the illiteracy eradication program through Braille.

Mr. Dawit further pointed out that the Association is giving special attention to the task of improving the life style of vision-impaired citizens, raising the awareness of the society as regards the blind, expanding equitable educational and health services to vision-impaired persons, among others.

Also speaking at the meeting, the Administrator of Adi-Keih sub-zone, Mr. Mohammed Hamid, said the Administration would demonstrate the necessary collaboration in backing up the activities of the Association
