Athlete Teklemariam stands 1st in World Cross Country Championship in Spain

Eritrean athlete Teklemariam Medhin stood first in the World Cross Country Championship running race that was held yesterday in Burgos, Spain.

 

Asmara, 8 November 2010 – Eritrean athlete Teklemariam Medhin stood first in the World Cross Country Championship running race that was held yesterday in Burgos, Spain.

Media outlets reported that the reigning world silver medalist athlete Teklemariam pulled away from Kenyan rival Joseph Ebuya inside the closing 400 m to grab victory, in which Ebuya sets the pace only to be out-sprinted by Teklemariam.   

In race covering about 9 kilometers, the key move was made by the 21-year-old Eritrean athlete Teklemariam some 350 meters from the finishing line when he opened full gas trying to speed away from his Kenyan rival. It seemed for a while that Ebuya responded to his attack but Teklemariam gradually opened the gap to cross the finish line in 24:33, two seconds ahead of Ebuya.

Also in the race, Eritrean athletes Kidane Tadesse stood 3rd, Samuel Tsegai 5th,  Kiflom Sium 9th and Tesfayohannes Mesfin finished 10th.
