More coordinated efforts vital for success of teaching-learning process: Administrator

Barentu, 8 November 2010 – The Administrator of Gash-Barka region, Mr. Mussa Rab’a, urged all government institutions and associations, especially administrative bodies to back up the teaching-learning process.

Speaking at a meeting held in Barentu focusing on educational progress in the region, he asserted that the regional Administration is doing its level best to promote the development of the education sector and raise public awareness in this respect.

The head of the Education Ministry’s branch in the region, Mr. Kelit Girmai, said on his part that although the 2010/2011 academic year didn’t begin on the set timetable, student enrollment in education, especially Grade 1 showed dramatic growth thanks to the intensive public awareness raising campaign. The regional Administration is also striving to build human capacity on the basis of the region’s internal capacity so as to tackle shortage of teachers.

Stressing the strong impact of sub-zonal administrators in enhancing the number of students enrolled in Grade 1, he explained that strenuous efforts would be exerted to this end in collaboration with teachers.

The participants of the meeting adopted a number of resolutions and recommendations highlighting the need to avoid delay in the beginning of classes and upgrading the skill of teachers, among others.
