Fruits and vegetables farmers in Mendefera sub-zone are redoubling efforts towards boosting output and stabilize market price, according to Mr. Eyob Solomon, expert in seed fertilization in the sub-zone.
Mendefera, 9 November 2010 – Fruits and vegetables farmers in Mendefera sub-zone are redoubling efforts towards boosting output and stabilize market price, according to Mr. Eyob Solomon, expert in seed fertilization in the sub-zone.
He explained that the farming community has undertaken a commendable task in tackling water shortage through digging wells and water reservoirs, thus becoming exemplary to other fellow farmers.
Mr. Mengisteab Habtemichael engaged in fruits and vegetables farming through constructing a water reservoir at a cost of half a million Nakfa said that the reservoir is playing due role in enriching underground water resource.
The head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, Mr. Zebib Kahsai, indicated on his part that about 700 fruits and vegetable farmers in the sub-zone who have been grouped in an association are cultivating over 1,000 hectares. They are now in a position to harvest three times a year and supply to the markets in various towns.
