New oxygen producing plant set up in Orotta National Referral Hospital

A new oxygen producing plant has been set up in Orotta National Referral Hospital, stated Dr. Habteab Mahari, Director of national referral hospitals in the Ministry of Health. Asmara, 11 November 2010 – A new oxygen producing plant has been set up in Orotta National Referral Hospital, stated Dr. Habteab Mahari, Director of national referral hospitals in the Ministry of Health.

He said that the referral hospitals were previously buying 20 to 25 barrels of oxygen per day from a company that produces oxygen to factories. Henceforth, however, a conducive ground has been created for them to become self-reliant.

The new plant was step up with the joint collaboration of the Health Ministry and ArcheMed of Germany at an expenditure of 150,000 Euro, and that oxygen would be transferred to 500 beds per day through pipeline.

The National Referral Hospital used to spend over 2 million Nakfa a year for buying oxygen to patients, reports indicated.
