Southern Red Sea region: Endeavors to ensure mother and child safety to be intensified

Efforts to ensure mother and child safety in the Southern Red Sea region would be intensified as they are bearing encouraging outcome, stated Dr. Afwerki Berhe, head of the Health Ministry’s branch in the region.   Ti’o, 15 November 2010 – Efforts to ensure mother and child safety in the Southern Red Sea region would be intensified as they are bearing encouraging outcome, stated Dr. Afwerki Berhe, head of the Health Ministry’s branch in the region.  

In a meeting with the inhabitants of Ti’o in which village elders, religious leaders, administrators and Assembly members took part, he pointed out that mothers in Araeta sub-zone are making commendable pre-and post-delivery medical checkups which is the outcome of the vigorous endeavors made by the people and the Government.

He further underscored the need for increased awareness raising campaign and encouragement of village elders and religious leaders so as to enhance it. Dr. Afwerki indicated that waiting halls  for pregnant have been constructed in health institutions in the sub-zone.

The participants of the meeting adopted a number of resolutions and recommendations highlighting the need for stepped-up campaign to raise public awareness.
