Mendefera, 22 November 2010 – Farmers in Mendefera sub-zone who are applying modern beekeeping hives are obtaining rich honey production both in terms of quality and amount, stated Mr. Habtom Laine, expert in animal breeding in the sub-zone.
He stated that the awareness of farmers engaged in bee farming continues to grow as a result of lectures and training being offered by experts in the field, which in turn enabled them to adopt modern bee farming practices. Over 11,000 kilo of honey was produced and supplied to the market this year, he added.
Mr. Habtom went on to say that the Ministry of Agriculture is doing its level best to develop bee farming through extending modern beehives, training and the like.
The farmers said on their part that bee farming is a lucrative business and stressed the significance of advices and lectures given by experts in boosting honey production.
