Development projects worth 2 billion Nakfa implemented in Southern region: Report

Various development projects were implemented in Southern region at an expenditure of over 2 billion Nakfa over the past 5 years, according to Mr. Rezene Fisehaye, director general of infrastructure development in the region.

Mendefera, 23 November 2010 – Various development projects were implemented in Southern region at an expenditure of over 2 billion Nakfa over the past 5 years, according to Mr. Rezene Fisehaye, director general of infrastructure development in the region.

The projects include the construction and renovation of schools, health institutions, residential houses, bridges, micro-dams and water reservoirs, as well as implementation of potable water supply projects and drafting master plan for rural and urban areas.

Accordingly, 16 kindergartens and 23 elementary, junior and secondary schools have been constructed, in addition to the building of 2 community hospitals and assistant nurse school. A number of health institutions have also been renovated, he added.

Mr. Rezene further pointed out that effective tasks have been accomplished as regards the construction of Demhina-Karibosa road, renovation and asphalting of streets in Dekemhare, construction of Mai-Tsebri bridge and the construction of 800 kilometers of dirt and asphalted roads.

Also in line with efforts to alleviate housing problem, over 8,000 land plots have been allotted to the public, in addition to the construction of residential houses for families whose homes were destroyed by the TPLF regime’s invading forces and to families who were relocated from the highlands, he elaborated.
