Schools in Gash-Barka called upon to strengthen managerial capacity

A lecture organized in Agordat town stressed the need for introducing efficient managerial system so as to register tangible achievements in academic activities in Gash-Barka region.

Agordat, 23 November 2010 – A lecture organized in Agordat town stressed the need for introducing efficient managerial system so as to register tangible achievements in academic activities in Gash-Barka region.

In the lecture in which heads of ministries’ branch offices, school directors and supervisors took part, the head of planning, research and training desk in the branch office, Mr. Haileab Habtai, outlined the main objectives of the office. Strengthening managerial and leadership skill, effective implementation of strategies and policies, as well as problem solving know-how are among the main objectives pursued by the branch office.

Papers were also presented by experts on the occasion focusing on school leadership and administration, management of the teaching-learning process, handling students and avoiding physical punishment in schools, among others. Following extensive discussion on the papers, the participants highlighted the need for working diligently through tackling existing loopholes.

The head of the Education Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region, Mr. Kelit Girmai, called on schools to map out clear and effective action plan, besides striving to develop community-based quality curriculum. There are also plans to award prizes to excellent female teachers and school directors this year,  he added.
