Eritrean people are well known for unity and dedication: Egyptian researcher

Al-Ahram newspaper said in its edition of November 9 that Eritreans are a peaceful and dedicated people who coexist in harmony and mutual respect. Mr. Atiya Esewi, journalist and researcher at the Strategic Studies Center in the paper, wrote an article in the newspaper that the Eritrean people waged a 30-year long armed struggle to achieve independence from Ethiopian colonial rule and paid heavy sacrifice in the process. Asmara, 26 November 2010 – Al-Ahram newspaper said in its edition of November 9 that Eritreans are a peaceful and dedicated people who coexist in harmony and mutual respect. Mr. Atiya Esewi, journalist and researcher at the Strategic Studies Center in the paper, wrote an article in the newspaper that the Eritrean people waged a 30-year long armed struggle to achieve independence from Ethiopian colonial rule and paid heavy sacrifice in the process.

Noting that religion has never been a cause of difference and conflict in Eritrea, Mr. Atiya explained that unity that played a paramount role in the struggle for liberation is still being employed as the main pillar in national reconstruction and development endeavors in the post-independence period.

He further noted that 60 to 70% of the Eritrean population has now got access to electricity and potable water supply services thanks to the substantial investment made in development programs.   The Al-Ahram journalist further pointed out that there exist clean and asphalted roads along the streets of towns and to and fro towns of the country.

Mr. Atiya stated that although 75% of the country’s territory is categorized as malaria-zone, the Eritrean people have succeeded in registering major victory in controlling the spread of the infection. Polio and other dangerous diseases have also been eradicated as a result of the relentless efforts made, he added.

Mr. Atiya also noted that Eritrean women take active participation in all domains in the country.
