Asmara, 26 November 2010 – Founding Congress of the Eritrean Autism and Down Syndrome Association was conducted yesterday at the NCEW Hall here in the capital.
In an opening speech, the Minister of Labor and Human Welfare, Ms. Salma Hassen, commended parents and concerned nationals for taking such initiatives and indicated that the Government pursues disabled-centered policies with a view to providing equal opportunity and rights without discrimination. In this connection, she noted that associations for the disabled currently operating under the umbrella of the Ministry are undertaking major tasks.
Ms. Salma went on to say that children suffering from Autism and other mental problem deserve love, care and compassion like any other children. Every nation is also duty-bound to create conducive ground for them to become productive.
The participants called on the society at large to avoid backward traditional practices and make due contribution in caring for victims of Autism and down syndrome. They also elected a 5-membered Executive Board.
