Gash-Barka: 30 water reservoirs constructed in the past 2 years

As part of efforts to ease potable water supply problem and enrich underground water resource, a total of 30 new water reservoirs were constructed in Gash-Barka region over the past 2 years, according to the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the region.
Barentu, 29 November 2010 – As part of efforts to ease potable water supply problem and enrich underground water resource, a total of 30 new water reservoirs were constructed in Gash-Barka region over the past 2 years, according to the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the region.

The head of seeds and animal development in the branch office, Mr. Misgina Gilay, explained that a number of reservoirs have been constructed around rangelands in the sub-zones of Agordat, Mogolo, Mensura, Haikota, Laelai-Gash, Barentu, Golij, Shambuko and Molqi that have relieved of the local inhabitants from the problem of drinking water.

He indicated that the water reservoirs constructed at substantial expenditure through the collaboration of partners and the Ministry have already impounded sufficient volume of water thanks to this year’s good rainy season.

Meanwhile, 3 water reservoirs in Kofrienko in Mogolo sub-zone, Libeniay in Haikota sub-zone and Derembit in Gogne sub-zone that were damaged on previous occasions have been renovated this year.
