The administrative areas of Awuhnei, Mendefera, Mesegolo-Zula, Dera and Maelewia in Adi-Keih sub-zone, have eradicated illiteracy, stated Mr. Zaid Tekle, head of the Education Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone.
Adi-Keih, 2 December 2010 – The administrative areas of Awuhnei, Mendefera, Mesegolo-Zula, Dera and Maelewia in Adi-Keih sub-zone, have eradicated illiteracy, stated Mr. Zaid Tekle, head of the Education Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone.
He said that there exist 20 stations for adult education programs in the administrative areas of Awuhnei and Mendefera, and that over 500 women have completed third grade. Mr. Zaid explained that some of the bottlenecks for adult education are maternity, traveling from place to place, remoteness of education centers and low standard of living.
Mr. Habtemariam Paulos, Assistant in adult education program in the Education Ministry’s branch in the Southern region, stated that efforts are underway with the collaboration of sub-zonal Administration to prevent relapse into illiteracy.
According to reports, more than 5,000 citizens have followed adult education program in Tigrinya, Saho and Tigre languages.
