Public express concern with the halting of construction of bridge along Barentu-Tessenei route

The general public urged the concerned party to finalize the construction of the remaining parts of the bridge around the Barentu Mekete Camp on the Barentu-Tessenei road. They explained that the construction of the bridge which was halted for 5 years for unknown reasons needs to resume taking into consideration its significance in ensuring efficient transport service.
Barentu, 3 December 2010 – The general public urged the concerned party to finalize the construction of the remaining parts of the bridge around the Barentu Mekete Camp on the Barentu-Tessenei road. They explained that the construction of the bridge which was halted for 5 years for unknown reasons needs to resume taking into consideration its significance in ensuring efficient transport service.

Members of the public further expressed concern with the halting of the project for that long which was initially designed to ease high traffic and prevent road accident. 

Car drivers said on their part that the bridge currently in use is quite old and too narrow for turning heavy trucks, which in turn is giving rise to more accidents. In this regard, they stressed the need for the speedy finalization of the new bridge so that they may be relieved of such problems. 

The head of Gedem Construction Company in Gash-Barka region, Mr. Fikadu Tekle, in a reply he gave to public complaints, explained that the reason for halting the project is in view of the fact that priority attention was given to other projects which are of vital significance. The necessary preparations have now been made to finalize the construction of the partially bridge shortly, he added.
