The Administrator of Northern Red Sea region, Ms. Tsegereda Woldegergis, called on fishermen in Gelalu sub-zone to raise awareness regarding the consequence of sea pollution and enhance participation in promoting sound ecology. She also urged them to step up contribution in efforts to achieve food security.
Gelalo, 4 December 2010 – The Administrator of Northern Red Sea region, Ms. Tsegereda Woldegergis, called on fishermen in Gelalu sub-zone to raise awareness regarding the consequence of sea pollution and enhance participation in promoting sound ecology. She also urged them to step up contribution in efforts to achieve food security.
In the course of a visit to Badada and Alul villages, the Administrator stressed the need for the local inhabitants in general and village elders in particular to redouble efforts in properly harnessing the seashore in the area for the benefit of the people and the nation, as it is endowed with tourism-attraction potentials.
Meanwhile, Ms. Tsegereda observed the Ice Factory and fish downloading facility set up to enable the local fishermen get easy access to cold storage service. The Administrator subsequently held talks with the local inhabitants and fishermen, during which she underlined that conservation of sea and coastline should be viewed as an integral part of harnessing fisheries resources.
The inhabitants of the locality voiced determination to play increased role in fish supply and environmental protection. They also reminded the need for easing potable water supply problem they are encountering.
Gelalu sub-zone is endowed with over 256 Km.-long coastline.
