Asmara, 11 December 2010 – International Children’s Day was marked today at the national level in a colorful manner.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister of Labor and Human Welfare, Ms. Salma Hassen, said that the investment made in family wellbeing is the determining factor for ensuring the society’s bright future. In this respect, she called on families and communities to step up contribution in nurturing mentally and physically healthy children.
The UNICEF Country Representative in Eritrea, Dr. Hamid Beshir, said on his part that Eritrea is among the few countries that are exemplary in caring for children, reducing child mortality rate, eradicating polio epidemic, controlling malaria infection and ensuring potable water supply as a result of the Government’s strenuous efforts in this regard.
Also on the occasion, the participants of the event observed an exhibition staged at the children’s pavilion that focused on health, creativity and education.
