Asmara Teachers Education Institute providing higher educational opportunity to outstanding students
The Asmara Teachers Education Institute has provided opportunity to its students who scored high marks to continue education in various colleges in the country, according to Mr. Alem Gebrekal, director of the Institute.
Asmara, 13 December 2010 – The Asmara Teachers Education Institute has provided opportunity to its students who scored high marks to continue education in various colleges in the country, according to Mr. Alem Gebrekal, director of the Institute.
He explained that the students who seized the opportunity and are already pursuing education in various colleges are demonstrating academic excellence. Efforts are also underway to enable them continue further education at higher level.
Moreover, Mr. Alem indicated that the Institute is providing education in the English and Arabic languages to 600 candidate teachers, out of whom 165 are females beginning this year.
Also in line with endeavors to upgrade its capacity, the Institute is offering M.A program opportunity to 18 instructors, while 2 teachers are pursuing first degree course and 2 administrative staff a diploma course, he added.
The head of educational service in the Institute, Ms. Halima Mohammed, said on her part that concerted action is being taken to upgrade the course in the Institute at the diploma level. Stating that it is providing certificate course to mother tongue candidate teachers, she explained that vigorous efforts are being exerted to educate teachers in duty from kindergarten to Grade 8 level.
The Asmara Teachers Education Institute was established in 1943 and that it had graduated over 8,000 candidate teachers in the post-independence period.
