Geleb, 17 December 2010 – The spread of communicable diseases in Mihlab administrative area, Geleb sub-zone, continues to decline as a result of the growing awareness of the society, according to Mr. Tezare Gebrat, head of health station in the area.
He explained that public awareness regarding the significance of modern medicine is gaining momentum thanks to the undertaking of intensive campaign and the provision of health services. Mr. Tezare went on to say that lectures are being offered focusing on mother and child care, environmental sanitation, as well as cause and consequences of communicable diseases.
He further indicated that over 700 pregnant mothers made pre-and post-delivery checkups at the health station this year, in addition to the undertaking of vaccination program to over 600 children. The initiative of the local inhabitants in maintaining environmental sanitation is also quite commendable, he added.
