Inhabitants of Maebelie undertaking farming activities

The inhabitants of Maebelie administrative area, South-Denkalia sub-zone of the Southern Red Sea region who engaged in crop cultivation in a group have managed to obtain satisfactory harvest.
Maebelie, 17 December 2010 – The inhabitants of Maebelie administrative area, South-Denkalia sub-zone of the Southern Red Sea region who engaged in crop cultivation in a group have managed to obtain satisfactory harvest.

They stated that a total of 50 farmers have formed a group and are engaged in sorghum cultivation on about 15 hectares, which in turn helped them to obtain bumper harvest.

Reports indicated that the inhabitants of Maebelie used to lead nomadic way of living, and following the encouragement of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch and the area administration they began to lead settled lifestyle and become beneficiaries of various social services.

The farmers said that they plan to put more hectares under cultivation and boost production.
