Hagaz, 18 December 2010 – Members of the Eritrean National War-disabled Veterans Association (ENWVA) branch in Anseba region are striving to improve their living standards encouraged by the continued assistance being provided by the Government and the Association.
They told ERINA that the activities they are undertaking at the individual and group level towards becoming economically self-supporting would be a steppingstone for better lifestyle.
The head of the branch office in the region, Mr. Dawit Gebrekristos, said that the members have secured loan from the Association and are engaged in various ventures, including gas station, bakery, wood and metal works and others, besides having registered encouraging accomplishments. He further explained that water pumping motors have been extended to 14 war-disabled nationals in the sub-zones of Geleb, Halhal, Kerkebet, Hamelmalo and Keren who have voluntarily decided to engage in vegetable farming. Likewise, those in Libena, Mai-Awalid, Halhal and Melebso who have grouped themselves in 3 have received grinding machine, Mr. Dawit added.
Meanwhile, a lecture was offered in Aretai semi-urban center, Habero sub-zone, on ways of extending care and support to children suffering from natural and man-made disabilities.
The head of the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare branch in Anseba region, Mr. Tedros Fisehaye, highlighted the major role of employees of community-based rehabilitation programs in enabling the disabled nationals become equal beneficiaries of all opportunities and resources.
