Sireru: Female participation in education on the rise

The participation of females in education is on the rise in Sireru administrative area, South Denkalia sub-zone, thanks to the construction of a semi-boarding school and the undertaking of public awareness raising campaign.
South-Denkalia, 20 December 2010 – The participation of females in education is on the rise in Sireru administrative area, South Denkalia sub-zone, thanks to the construction of a semi-boarding school and the undertaking of public awareness raising campaign.

The director of the Sireru semi-boarding elementary school, Mr. Osman Ali Saleh, explained that previously there existed no habit of sending females to school. At present, however, out of the total number of students, females comprise 23%.

A member of the parents committee in the school, Mr. Lielo Hamed, said on his part that female participation in education is progressing well as a result of the undertaking of campaign in remote areas.

Sireru semi-boarding elementary school provides educational opportunity up to Grade 5 in the mother tongue.
