President Isaias Holds Talks With Regional Trade Unions’ Conference Participants

President Isaias Afwerki gave extensive briefings regarding the present economic, social and political situation in Eritrea and the Horn region to the representatives of different workers’ unions as well as international trade organization who participated in the Regional Trade Unions’ Conference held in Asmara.

Asmara, 21 December 2010- President Isaias Afwerki gave extensive briefings regarding the present economic, social and political situation in Eritrea and the Horn region to the representatives of different workers’ unions as well as international trade organization who participated in the Regional Trade Unions’ Conference held in Asmara.

President Isaias pointed out that at a time when Africa is going though turbulent times, workers’ unions should play due role in promoting peace, development and cooperation.

Stating that Eritrea is an island of peace and stability in a region of unrelenting turmoil, President Isaias explained that the sanctions resolution by the Security Council is unpractical and fabricated. The unjust sanctions resolution are merely serving in prompting Eritrean nationals inside the country and abroad to work harder for national goals, he added.

President Isaias went on to note that contrary to the current state of ethnic violence and clashes in different parts of the world, Eritrea is cultivating a united and patriotic society.

The participants on their part expressed appreciation for the briefing given by President Isaias, as well as the warm hospitality of the people as a whole.
