The head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the Southern region, Mr. Bahta Tedros, urged organs of the branch in the region to closely assess the endeavors exerted to boost production vis-à-vis the output obtained, besides widely introducing and expanding modern farming practices.
Dekemhare, 22 December 2010 – The head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the Southern region, Mr. Bahta Tedros, urged organs of the branch in the region to closely assess the endeavors exerted to boost production vis-à-vis the output obtained, besides widely introducing and expanding modern farming practices.
In an assessment meeting of the Ministry’s branch in Dekemhare sub-zone, he stated that the offices should give increased attention to the task of raising crop production, livestock resource and their products. Mr. Bahta further called on agricultural experts to work hand-in-hand with the farming community in boosting output that also meets market demand of the market.
Reports presented at the meeting indicated that the sub-zone supplies over 320,000 liters of milk, over 5,600 kilos of honey and about 273,000 eggs, as well as about 47,000 quintals of fruits and over 42,000 quintals of vegetables to the market.
Following discussion on the weak and strong points of the branch office, the participants of the meeting said that the bumper harvest obtained this year would be a steppingstone in efforts to achieve food security. In this connection, they highlighted the need for extending professional support so as to obtain still more gratifying output.
