Community-based health programs vital in preventing communicable diseases

Keren, 24 December 2010 – Inhabitants of various villages in Keren sub-zone highlighted the significance of lectures and campaigns undertaken by voluntary representatives of community-based health program in preventing the spread of communicable diseases.

The inhabitants of Shinara, Lebeda and Aribsira villages in the sub-zone said that carrying out community-based environmental sanitation program has a vital role to play in combating transmittable diseases. The problems that used to be encountered during pregnancy and delivery have also been eased as a result of the advices and lectures being offered by representatives of the health program, they added. The number of mothers making regular medical checkups in the health centers is also on the rise.

Mr. Kiros Sereqe from the Health Ministry’s branch in Anseba region said on his part that the inhabitants of the aforementioned villages are carrying out commendable activities in promoting environmental sanitation.

The villages of Shinara, Lebeda and Aribsera that are located west of Keren town are inhabited by a total of 1,500 people.
