The Asmara Teachers Education Institute is constructing additional building complexes at an expenditure of about 8 million Nakfa so as to enroll more candidate teachers, according to Mr. Alem Gebrekal, director of the institute.
Asmara, 27 December 2010 – The Asmara Teachers Education Institute is constructing additional building complexes at an expenditure of about 8 million Nakfa so as to enroll more candidate teachers, according to Mr. Alem Gebrekal, director of the institute.
He indicated that the buildings under construction involve 60 student dormitory rooms, 5 additional classrooms, bathrooms and restrooms, as well as other facilities. Upon finalization of the project, the Institute would be in a position to enroll additional 240 candidate teachers, on top of the 600 students registered annually, Mr. Alem explained.
It is to be noted that the Institute has been providing a year-long certificate course to candidate teachers who engage in elementary schools. Meanwhile, a curriculum has already been finalized to upgrade the course to diploma level, reports added.
The Asmara Teachers Education Institute is currently providing course to a total of 605 students, out of whom 165 are females in English, Arabic and the mother tongue in 10 subjects.
