Accord concluded on the maintenance and expansion of Orotta Referral Hosptial

In accordance with the previously concluded agreement between the governments of Eritrea and the PRC, an accord was signed today here in the capital on the maintenance of the Orotta Referral Hospital and the construction of extension building complexes.

Asmara, 28 December 2010 – In accordance with the previously concluded agreement between the governments of Eritrea and the PRC, an accord was signed today here in the capital on the maintenance of the Orotta Referral Hospital and the construction of extension building complexes.

The agreement signed between the Eritrean Ministry of Health and the Chinese Tianjin International Economic and Technical Cooperation Group Corporation involves the renovation of the Orotta Hospital, construction of heart surgery room, physiotherapy and oxygen production facility, as well as the putting in place of underground pond with the capacity of holding about 500 cubic meters of water, repairing of water pipelines and other facilities. The project is expected to be finalized within the next 15 months, according to Dr. Habteab Mehari, director of referral hospitals.

The accord was signed by Health Minister Amna Nurhusein on the Eritrean side, and the Chinese Ambassador to Eritrea, Mr. Li Liliansheng, and the General Manager of China Tianjin International Economic and Technical Cooperation Group Corporation, Mr. Zhang Lijing, on the side of the PRC.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ms. Amna pointed out that the Eritrean government is giving top priority to the task of ensuring public health, and expressed hope that the project would be implemented on the set timetable.

The Chinese Ambassador said on his part that the agreement symbolizes the existing goodwill on the part of both governments, and asserted that the PRC would enhance cooperation for the success of the Eritrean development programs.
