Southern Red Sea Region: Campaign Underway To Promote Female Participation In Education

A campaign featuring artistic presentations is being undertaken in the Southern Red Sea region with a view to promoting female participation in education.

Massawa, 31 December 2010- A campaign featuring artistic presentations is being undertaken in the Southern Red Sea region with a view to promoting female participation in education.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the campaign, the Administrator of the region, Mr. Osman Mohammed Omar, asserted that the regional Administration would give top priority to the task of promoting female participation in education.

Meanwhile, a study paper focusing on female participation in education was presented at a workshop in which heads of the Education Ministry, Southern and Northern Red Sea regional administrations took part.

The paper indicated that female participation in education in the Afar ethnic group which used to stand at below 1% prior to independence has now shown an increase of 30%.

The campaign involving 25 cultural troupes would be undertaken for 2 months, according to Mr. Abdalla Mohammed Osman, head of the Ministry’s branch in the Southern Red Sea region.
