Newly constructed water reservoir in Shambuko sub-zone promoting cattle resource

The inhabitants of Aikota administrative area, Shambuko sub-zone, expressed satisfaction with the construction of a new water reservoir that relieved them from shortage of drinking water for their livestock.

Shambuko, 1 January 2011 – The inhabitants of Aikota administrative area, Shambuko sub-zone, expressed satisfaction with the construction of a new water reservoir that relieved them from shortage of drinking water for their livestock.

The Administrator of the area, Mr. Yakob Fortunato, said that although the sub-zone is suitable for cattle breeding and endowed with sufficient grass, shortage of drinking water for livestock, especially during arid season has been posing problem in making good use of such resources.

The local inhabitants stated that previously they were compelled to migrate to remote areas in search of water and pasture as there existed no water reservoir. Traveling for long distance would now be no more thanks to the construction of the new facility, they added.

The head of micro-dams supervision unit in the sub-zone, Mr. Dawit Gebrezgi, indicated on his part that the construction of the water reservoir was both timely and significant taking into account the rich cattle resource and rangelands. He also commended the contribution of the local inhabitants in the undertaking.
