Shambuko, 4 January 2011 – The inhabitants of Adi-Maelele administrative area, Shambuko sub-zone, expressed complaints over the halting of the implementation process of a potable water supply project in the area involving the construction of water tankers and distribution stations, as well as installation of water pipelines.

The Administrator of the area, Mr. Kiflai Yemane, indicated that although the Gash-Barka regional Administration had constructed a micro-dam in the area at substantial expenditure, the local inhabitants are not yet relieved from traveling long distance to fetch water due to delays in the implementation of the project. In this connection, he urged the concerned party to urgently finalize the implementation process.

The local inhabitants stated that the construction of the micro-dam has eased lack of drinking water in the area, and stressed the need for the finalization of the halted project so that they may get access to potable water supply. They went on to say that their livestock have now easy access to drinking water thanks to the construction of the micro-dam.
