Asmara, 7 January 2011 – The Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare branch in the Central region has carried out various activities in 2010 with a view to promoting conducive work atmosphere and raising productivity through creating harmonies relationship between employees and employers, according to Mr. Berhane Woldekidan, director of the branch.
He pointed out that about 227 individuals who were seeking job opportunities managed to seize employment opportunity, while about 160 nationals who fulfilled the necessary requirements were sent abroad to get job opportunities. The branch office also carried out new card issuing and renewing old ones for over 7,000 foreign nationals working in the country, Mr. Berhane added.
Also as part of efforts to settle work disputes through reconciliation, out of the 571 cases presented in 2010, the 320 of them were resolved through reconciliation, while the remaining 138 are pending settlement. Mr. Berhane went on to say that quality control activities were undertaken in over 88% of enterprises in the centeral region.
