Implementation of development programs in Southern Red Sea region improving the people’s lifestyle

The Administrator of Southern Red Sea region, Mr. Osman Mohammed Omar, said that the implementation of various infrastructure and socio-economic programs in the region have laid solid ground for enabling the inhabitants to lead a prosperous lifestyle.

Assab, 7 January 2010 – The Administrator of Southern Red Sea region, Mr. Osman Mohammed Omar, said that the implementation of various infrastructure and socio-economic programs in the region have laid solid ground for enabling the inhabitants to lead a prosperous lifestyle.

Speaking at an annual assessment meeting in Assab, he indicated that potable water supply projects were implemented at a total expenditure of 23.4 million Nakfa in 11villages of the sub-zones of Araeta, South-Denkalia and Central Denkalia that are providing reliable drinking water to the inhabitants.

The Administrator further pointed out that potable water supply and toilets were put in place at a cost of 3 million Nakfa 5 schools in Rahaita, Abo, Kiloma, Harsile and Mekaekae in South Denkalia sub-zone. Besides, new elementary schools have been built at an expenditure of 6 million Nakfa in Araeta and South Denkalia sub-zones, including the villages of Ferer, Miedir and Bailole.

Also in line with endeavors to improve the living standard of needy compatriots, about 150 families have been rehabilitated through extending cattle worth over 11 million Nakfa, besides disbursing over 4 million Nakfa towards encouraging local fishermen. The number of pregnant mothers giving birth in health institutions is also gaining momentum, Mr. Osman Mohammed Omar added.

Moreover, 4 reserve lands covering 3,000 hectares were established in 3 sub-zones, in addition to renovating damaged dirt and asphalted roads through popular campaign. The Administrator went on to say that more terraces, embankments and water catchments were constructed so as to  reinforce soil and water conservation activities.  He also called on the inhabitations to make good use of the available social service facilities.
