Members Of The Public Express Complaints With Delays In Receiving Wrapped Postal Delivery

Members of the general public stressed the need for the concerned party to take remedial action against the delays being witnessed in handing wrapped postal delivery.

Asmara, 11 January 2011 –  Members of the general public stressed the need for the concerned party to take remedial action against the delays being witnessed in handing wrapped postal delivery.

They voiced complaints that they are visiting the Eritrean Postal Service many times in order to receive the delivered package.

In a reply he gave to ERINA, the head of postal service, Mr. Asmelash Geresus, admitted the complaints made and that the institution is doing its level best to tackle the problem. In this connection, he said that the main reason for such problem is the huge amount of packages delivered from abroad and the lack of enough storage facility, as well as work place. Mr. Asmelash further pointed out that putting in place efficient infrastructure facility is a prerequisite in order to bring about fundamental solution to the problem.

Meanwhile, the members of the general public highlighted the need for introducing a mechanism that would enable them to collect the sent package in their respective administrative regions, as such delays are exposing them to unwanted expenses.

They went on to say that members of the customs duty engaged in similar activities are equally playing negative role in prolonging the delays.

The head of customs duty in the Eritrean Postal Service, Mr. Solomon Embaye, noted that the issue is the direct concern of the postal service, and not that of customs duty. He stated that the office is rendering speedy service to the public
